The past week was all work, work and a lot of work. Nothing really new except for a new game I downloaded on my phone that’s been eating most of my spare time, other than reading of course. And guess what? I have also created an account on Net Galley. Yes. After years of reading I finally created my account. Loser I know. LOL! I need advice from you guys on how publishers could accept my requests since I’ve sent tons, but none of them was accepted. I don’t know. I was so upset when I’ve received emails confirming that none of them was approved. Perhaps I could edit my profile and say stuff. Sigh. I don’t have any idea on how to make it work so maybe you guys can give me tips and whatnot. I also want to know if there are books that’s already available for download so I could check them out. I’m really hoping you guys can help me out with this. Please. PRETTY PLEASE! 😀

  3. NetGalley can be very addictive. Sometimes it’s hard to say why you’re not accepted to review books. I know that I’ve been rejected simply because I’m in Australia and they don’t want to make copies available outside the US for instance. It would be nice if there was a reason given for it and not just a generic rejection message. Just make sure you have a good profile written up on yourself and your blog and see how you go. I might just take a while.

  4. Thy did a whole tutorial on profiles. It is either country, blog focus, or your numbers. I have never seen your country mentioned. Also register with edelweiss (a book order and review copy service) too.
    You could say in your profile that while you are in your country, most of your readers are from ” ” – if it is true of course.

  5. I had set up a Net Galley account and was accepted on some books, but for some reason, I couldn’t download them onto my Kindle…it didn’t work for some reason, so I gave up!

    I already have way too many books already and I love getting my Amazon Vine print books, so I’m good. But I hope you can get some!

  8. Good luck with NetGalley! It’s definitely intimidating at first. I recommend that you start with the Read Now books so you can build your ratio because a lot of publishers really pay attention to that number. There’s a lot of junk but I’ve read some really interesting books in the Read Nows. As for your profile make sure you list statistics – number of posts a week, follower numbers for blog, twitter, goodreads, whatever. Location also is important but they’ll normally say if it’s location specific. Hope that helps!

  9. I haven’t done Netgalley so I can’t say, but I’ve been thinking about it. I hope it works out for you, I’m sure it will. Nice review of Blood of Olympus, I really want to read all those books at some point.

    Atlantia definetly has an interesting premise, curious about that.

  11. Check NetGalley daily. Look for auto-approvals/read now books you like.Read and review one to get started. Sometimes a popular book will get a hundred requests and they have a limit. So it may just be that. Be careful about requesting too many..because all at once you will get a ton of acceptance notifications.Make sure you stats and links are updated.

  14. I’m going to warn you, be picky about what you get off of NG. It is very easy to become overwhelmed from them. Just make your profile as complete as possible. And make sure to submit your reviews/feedback, because that will raise your percentage.

As far as NetGalley goes, I’ve learned not to request too many books at once, because you won’t hear anything for a while and then BAM all of a sudden you have a bunch and you can’t get them all read in time! As for your profile, I’d just be sure to include as many details as you can about your blog (visitors, comments) and where else you’re active (twitter, Goodreads, etc.) The other thing that could be getting you though is that quite a few want reviewers in the US. Stupid, but that will automatically pull you out of the running on some.

  16. Hi, Nzye! NetGalley can be unpredictable. A couple of things seem to factor in to whether you get books. As several folks have said, country is one factor. I don’t know where you are, but there are some titles that say UK or Australia preferred, and some that say US preferred… and some who don’t seem to care one way or another. It seems silly for the blogger’s country to matter, because your readers could be anywhere, but I think that part of the country issue may have to do with rights – whether the rights have been sold for your country or not.

    Another factor is traffic: how many page visits you get per month; how many followers you have; anything you can point to that shows that people come to your blog. I don’t have a huge number of followers, but I can point to my page views and also that I’m active on other social media. My blog has a Facebook page, a Twitter account, a Pinterest account, and I’m on Goodreads, so presumably there are ways for people who don’t follow the blog to hear about a review.

    Finally, when you ask makes a difference. A lot of publishers only offer a limited number of ARCs. If you’re among the first people to request, you have a better chance than if you ask for a book that’s been on the site for a while. But don’t rule out books that have been on NetGalley a while, because sometimes, the publisher will allocate another batch of ARCs closer to (or even after) the publication date. That happened to me – a request for three books from one publisher sat unanswered for well over a month, and I got all three in one day – three weeks before they came out.

    Incidentally, while I have less luck on Edelweiss, Edelweiss does at least let you personalize each request. So if there’s an author you really, really love, it’s worth trying Edelweiss. Just make sure to check back there frequently to see if you got it, because you don’t always get an email. (Or at least, I haven’t always gotten one.)

  17. Oooh! Atlantia looks good…..(no! I cannot request more books) I am finally close to 80% on Netgalley. I vowed not to sign up for more tours this year, (unless they come with a physical copy, because I cannot turn those down). I put my stats and my social media profiles on netgalley. I also link to a few good reviews I have done with the netgalley books I have been approved for. Focus on quality not quantity there. That % can make a big difference when it comes to those books you really, really want.

  18. I want to read Winterspell so bad!

    I had so much trouble getting approved on Netgalley at first…so I read a lot of read-now titles and got some reviews up and my ratio looking good and just proving I was an acceptable and honest and legit reviewer. THEN I got a few approvals! SO EXCITING. XD I don’t use Netgalley a lot though, because my ereader is my iPod and it’s sooo small to read on. But it’s still such an awesome program I hope you have luck with it!

  20. A few things that may be the reason you aren’t being accepted:

    – Location (most books are available only for US/UK/Canada)
    – Social Media – make sure you have linked all social media on your profile!
    I even go so far as to put how many subscribers I have in the description bar
    – fill out your profile entirely
    – link back to your blog… duh!

Concerning Netgalley, I would advise to include as much information in your profile as possible, so whichever social media accounts you have, how many bloglovin followers etc. And even then it will be difficult getting accepted for a while, especially for the popular books. JUst make sure to keep your percentage of books reviewed high and after a while you get accepted more often, but that can take a while. Just be patient. I have a netgalley account for two years now and still regulary get rejected for a book.

  26. Netgalley is really tricky, I registered myself last weekend and I already made a rookie mistake … I got three “read me” books from the same series without knowing if I like it.
    And I want this one book I’m pretty sure I won’t get. It’s frustrating being new… It will get better, I promise 🙂

    You should definitely update your profile on Netgalley, and also link to your blog, social media and Goodreads profiles. On your Netgalley profile, you should include the genres you enjoy reading, as well as some statistics, like how many followers you have and how many hits your blog gets each week. Good luck!
